What is GHK-Cu?
GHK-Cu is a copper-binding tripeptide (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine + Cu²⁺), first isolated from human plasma in 1973. The copper coordination gives the compound its deep blue color in solution — a normal visual signature, not a sign of degradation.
Research mechanism
Published research has examined the following mechanisms:
- Copper transport — GHK delivers Cu(II) to enzyme systems including lysyl oxidase and SOD.
- ECM modulation — effects on collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis in fibroblast cultures.
- Gene expression — genome-wide microarray studies show modulation of thousands of human genes.
